APC faults NLC boss' encomium on Gov. Mimiko

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has faulted the comments of the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba on the tenure and performance of the state governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.

The NLC president had through a letter of commendation written to the governor, congratulated him on the 7th year anniversary and 40th anniversary of the state for transforming Ondo to a modern and one of the leading states in the country.

However, the APC in a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Omo'ba Abayomi Adesanya, said, "on completion of his uneventful 8 years tenure, all indications have shown that Gov. Mimiko would be leaving the state worse than he met it".

The seven years is characterized with pains, anti-masses policies, suffering boldly written on the faces of the people. According to him, it is seven years of unemployment, forced tax, none payments of workers salaries and total neglect of pensioners, unwarranted retrenchment, infrastructural decay, economic depression and backwardness in our dear sunshine state. 'I will work for you' in actual sense means 'I will deal with you'.

"Where is the six-lane roads Governor Mimiko promised the Akure people? Where is the small London he promised to turn the State Capital into? Why did he abandon all projects Dr. Olusegun Agagu's administration could not complete? Projects like the Owena Water Dam which Agagu administration spent billions of naira on; the Olokola Free-Trade Zone; the OK-LNG Plant; the uncompleted Akure Township Stadium at Araromi; the Refinery he promised during his campaign for the second term, to mention but a few.

The Ondo APC spokesperson said “the seven  years of Governor Mimiko has brought no tangible development into State. Almost all roads in Akoko land are in a state of disrepair; our Local Government Areas Headquarters have become mushrooms and reduced to mere looting centres;  Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) put in place to carter for the needs of the Ilaje oil producing areas Communities, has nothing to show for the several billions of Naira accruing to it for seven years under Mimiko’s watch; The 2000 teachers Mimiko promised to employ in year 2014 has become a mirage;  Ondo State being the richest State in the South-West after Lagos, has nothing to show for all monies accrued to it from the Federation Account, common a kilometre of road has not been commissioned by this government in seven years;  What our dear Governor Olusegun Mimiko is good at is buying awards all over the places, sponsor PDP political meetings on behalf of President Goodluck Jonathan, run propaganda on the media to misinform the public on the true state of our dear Sunshine State.

Omo'ba Adesanya said, "Olusegun Mimiko took over from Olusegun Agagu in 2009 with viable assets and N44billion cash. Today, it is saddened to note that, there are liabilities in all parastatals and ministries in the state. The debt profile has risen to over N100billion, nothing to show for it and the over N1.2trillion allocation accrued to the state from the Federation account for seven years.

"The people don't need the comments of Mr. Wabba ‎to know if Ondo State has been transformed or not. We urge our people to disregard the praises ushered on Gov. Mimiko by the praise singer.

"Meanwhile, it is clearly obvious that having lost acceptability at home, the administration of Gov. Mimiko has embarked on recruitment of foreign praise singers in the guise of opinion moulders. This is a government in desperate search for foreign endorsement. That was a bad hire.

"It is more worrisome ‎that the uninformed comment of Comrade Wabba was made at a time workers and pensioners alike are being owed over four months salaries and allowances.

"There is no clearer way to show that the leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress is insensitive to the plights and pains of workers in Ondo State. You will recall that, Omo'ba Adesanya had accused the Labour Union leadership in the state of compromise with the government against the workers welfare,  in a statement issued on February 17th, the statement reads.
